Life's A Gas in Malawi

A nation that bans farting is out to make a statement.

Haha well, I'm happy there was at least one person in the article who said "Aren't there bigger things to worry about?"

That would be my take, but maybe the gas is particularly rank in Malawi.

I hope not to find out.

I read this on a more detailed article at the BBC. It's another case of lawyers taking laws to the letter instead of to the spirit.

This lawyer in Malawi insists that a law that prohibits releasing foul-smelling gases or fumes into the atmosphere -- a law meant to prohibit air pollution -- must also apply to farting, and is taking it to the courts.

Perhaps the ideal is to be a nation of laws without lawyers.

There must be a way.
